Harry is the handsome fellow in this picture. He started playing piano at age 10, composing at age 15, and asking “does your project need a composer” at age 16.
From the heart of Central Queensland, Australia, Harry has journeyed his way to becoming a creative and detail-oriented composer and producer. He has worked with many professionals along the way, becoming established within Brisbane’s musical ecosystem.
Most importantly, however, he has a degree in music! He has graduated from the Queensland University of Technology with a Bachelor’s degree of Fine Arts (Music) in his hand. So you know he is the real deal.
In his spare time he enjoys sound designing, exploring the Australian wilderness, analysing Toby Fox’s latest masterpiece, and looking to his left.
Who is this guy?
Approach to Musicianship
Harry grew up surrounded by the wonders of digital music composition. He carries a heavy influence from video games and is obsessed with retro game audio. During his teenage years, Harry began composing for his friend’s various game jams and managed to develop a knack for it. Once out of high-school, Harry studied for 3 years at the Queensland University of Technology, majoring in music. Throughout the course of his studies, he has dramatically improved and excelled in his musicianship and writing.
Harry is skilled in crafting original compositions across various genres, including jazz, pop, symphonic/orchestral and EDM. He has a proven track record of collaborating with other artists to develop innovative soundscapes for film and interactive media that enhance storytelling and emotional impact. His unique utilisation of organic and technological instrumental qualities creates picturesque soundscapes and textures. Harry is dedicated to the projects he is tasked to and plans to expand his portfolio through means of personal and collaborative efforts.
Harry’s compositional style explores themes that best reflect or represent a story or setting, enhancing audience perception through emotional intricacy and subtlety. He draws inspiration from artists and composers including AZALI, JVKE, Yasunori Mitsuda, Koji Kondo, John Williams, Trevor Alan Gomes, Hiromi and Toby Fox (of course).
On top of this, Harry frequents a good night out with his ‘late-night’ funk band The Contraband as they dabble around the centres of Brisbane and leave its residents with a good groove in their soul. Check them out!
As a producer and engineer, Harry works across many genres and approaches the studio as a musician first. His production work includes projects with other Brisbane-based artists such as Kristen Grace, King Crow and Nomads. Moving comfortably between the control room and the instruments themselves, he draws on his experience from his own compositions to shape arrangements, backing tracks and recordings from the inside out. He is also experienced in post-production mixing and mastering to ensure tracks he works on are delivered at a professional standard. Harry understands and values the importance of effective collaboration, communication and artist accommodation when working in a studio setting.
